Here's a list of fish and chip shops that have been tried and tasted on our rides over the years. When we visit a chippy, we don't mention chippiesforbikers until we have paid and are ready to leave. This ensures we don't get special treatment or special deals or special meals. What we write is the plain, deep-fried truth. MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OUR READERS
Yes, the weather has been so bad that none of us have been out recently. However, on Sunday 6th Jan I am hoping to get to Sheringham in Norfolk to sample the fish and chips there. I'll report back on how I get on.

Winter draws on....well, I've got mine on!
Not much to report on the fish and chip front, I'm afraid. Not been out on the bike much as I've been busy at work. Still, I'm supposed to be an all year round biker so watch this space!!

Cologne: a fish 'n' chip free zone!
Just got back from a few days in Cologne, mainly to visit the Intermot bike show. An easy trip for the Pan European as Cologne is closer to home than is John O'Groats. Good weather there and good weather back, but in between, well, enough said! Star of the show was the new BMW GS (see New BMW 1200 GS report ). As for food, ham knuckle and sauerkraut predominated, and early nights, too as after 10 pm at night, the city centre just died...no one to be seen!
No music, no life, and NO CHIPPIES!
Sunday, 30 September 2012
Been pretty quiet on the fish 'n' chips front recently....but off to Cologne on Wednesday to the Intermot Motorcycle Show. I'll report on any chippies I come across on my return.

Eye eye, that's yer lot!
Having been advised to try Weldon's Fisheries in Eye Green in Peterborough, I called in last night, Tuesday ...by car! All I can say is that the prices were reasonable, lots of off road parking but the food was not a patch on the Market Place in Barton upon Humber...but then I wasn't in Barton, I was in Eye Green and hungry.

The Lion, Blakey Ridge, Kirkbymoorside
OK,OK, so it isn't a fish'n' chip shop, but The Lion is certainly worth
a visit...and visit it we did on our Friday ride out. You'll find The Lion on
Blakey Ridge, YO62 7LQ.
We rode over a wind-blasted Humber Bridge, now free to motorcyclists, breakfasted at Mrs B's Woodland Cafe at the Humber Bridge Amenity Area, Hessle HU13 0LN, then on through Malton and Pickering to Rosedale Abbey. Turning left into Gill Lane leads you to the 1 in 3 (!!!) Rosedale Chimney Bank. This you must try...but not on an icy day and whatever you do, don't stop!! On over the moors to Hutton-le-Hole and turn right , climbing to The Lion. Back then via minor roads through Amotherby, touching the west sine of Malton, minor roads to Pocklington, the Humber Bridge, Barton upon Humber - The Market Place must be the absolute best chippie on here - and then home. 12 hours and 260 miles of good riding in good weather.

Reg Archer - Woodhall Spa
And so to Woodhall Spa on a cold, grey and windy August evening! Just the three of us: Compo, Clegg and Foggy, Lincolnshire's answer to The Three Must Get Heres. Fortunately, we came across Reg Archer's biker-welcoming friary. Great news for my doctor...and my waistline...they serve small potions as well as standard ones!
Woodhall Spa is an interesting place and well worth a ride out for those of you outside of Lincolnshire. The Petwood Hotel became the wartime Officers Mess for 617 ‘Dambusters' Squadron and the Squadron Bar hosts a range of memorabilia and tributes to Guy Gibson VC, Leonard Cheshire VC and their Officers. There is a Dambusters Memorial near the town centre, too, and for bikers carrying golf clubs (!!!), there is the National Golf Centre, HQ of EnglandGolf.
The Poachers classic motorcycle club from nearby Spilsby hold a fish and chip run to Reg Archers on the first Friday in August each year, too.
You'll find the chippie at 29 Witham Road, Woodhall Spa, Lincs, LN10 6RW, right next door to The Trading Post which sells classic bikes and other motorcycling and motoring memorabilia.

Coming soon: More Yorkshire chippies..and a Lincs one
Yes, that's right...and with a bit of luck, our intrepid "Last of the Summer Wine" look-a-likes will soon be sampling more fish and chips (and bits, please!) this time from Yorkshire's chippies. We are planning a Friday ride-out that will take us through Sherburn, Tadcaster, Thirsk etc and there are bound to be places to try...though I doubt if we can report on more than one in a day without overloading our digestion.
This just in from an MCN reader: Saxilby fish and chips just outside of Lincoln (A57)on the High street good ride out and a superb chippie, skinless cod as well. Watch out for a review soon
As ever, if you have any comments to make, any more chippies to contribute or any you think we should try, please post them here - but please keep it legal, decent, honest and truthful.
And if you'd like to see the ones we've visited so far, just scroll down to our earlier posts.

Harry Ramsbottom's - Skegness
Last night -
superb weather for an evening ride-out and a chance to catch up with
"old" friends, as you'll see from the images. Five bikes
toured the lanes of East Lindsey before heading to Skegness, home of the
Jolly Fisherman.....and Harry Ramsbottom's fish 'n' chips. Excellent food, great fish, freshly cooked and a huge menu too, Harry's is spotlessly clean, the staff friendly and there is a huge amount of covered outdoor seating.
Skegness is a great ride-out destination and this is reflected in the number of bikers who head there during the week and at weekends.

And so to Bridlington...Audrey's in fact! Your dedicated team of fish 'n' chip tasters can honestly say that no bikers were harmed in the consumption of the excellent food on offer here. Arrive at the Harbour car park, where there is free parking for bikes in the dedicated bike area then up the steps into town and there you'll find...

Thursday 14th June: Louth Bike Night. Mr Chips, 17-21 Aswell Street Louth.
even though it was a very busy bike night, with the town centre streets closed, and thousands of bikes, bikers and onlookers, Mr Chips was up to the task. Not being greedy, we settled just for chips and bits - but horror of horrors, they had run out of curry sauce!

The Hawaiian Eye Cafe, Central Promenade, Cleethorpes. The cafe does not quite meet the exacting criteria for inclusion in that is not purely a chippie. However, it is a biker's cafe and most if not all Thursday nights there will be some bikes there...sports bikes, cruisers and trikes....and as you can see, parking is not generally a problem. On this particular Saturday we'd had a great ride through the Wolds, not a spot of rain...until we reached Cleethorpes. Rest assured , it's not always like that!

Called at Oxford Street Fisheries in Market Rasen the other evening. Run by a biker it seems and decent fish and chips but no parking. Oxford St is quite narrow and the shop is close to the traffic lights. You can see it here: http://goo.gl/j67O9 and on Street View too. Photo to follow.

Market Place, Barton-upon-Humber
We join the throngs here every Barton Bike Night. Brilliant fish and chips. Huge fish..possibly related to Moby Dick!

Mary Janes Fish Bar in Cromer.
We were here in 2011, recommended to us by a local as the best chippie in Cromer, You know what? We think they were right!
